Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 4 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 amβ3 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (828) 505-0029. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, piccolinaavl.com.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 127 reviews, which is a strong result for an italian restaurant in Asheville and suggests consistent service.
Asheville is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Asheville follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Decided to pop in for lunch sans a reservation, and luckily we were seated at the counter. We had a lovely view of the street so could people watch. We had heard the sandwiches were ginormous, so we shared the Rossi. Thank goodness we did! I took some of my half home! Loaded with meats, loved the pistachio on top, but could have done with a little more lemon vinaigrette - did not need the moisture but needed a little more acid. I had a glass of their red sparkling and hubs had a glass of the prosecco. Both were delicious. Service was on point, and they were BUSY! We shall definitely go back again..

The only thing I can say is I wish I could give this gem more than 5 π stars. My friend took me to lunch today. The food was perfect. Large portions so go hungry and save room for π¨ dessert. Fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful and located in the midst of many art galleries. What could be better than that. Perhaps the only thing better was our server Domenica. She had just a few extra minutes to chat with us and when I left I felt like I became part of a restaurant family. Make reservations. Because it is always packed for lunch. The do dinner only 2 days a week with a fixed menu. I'm Italian, I thought my grandmother was somehow in the kitchen. Magnificent.! Thank you everyone. That chocolate dessert worth every calorie.

The level of pure excellence this place is unmatched. From the wonderful PREFIX menu which is so filling, soft, light, but savory. Checks all of my boxes. The ambiance is amazing, small but perfect. The desserts were the best chocolate cake and canolis in the city. Please for the love of all that is holy dont skip this place. The service from Connor and Dominique were superb. Owners Elana and Nathan are gems.

Well well well. Nothing like a very pleasant surprise to round off a perfect trip. We stumbled across this very quaint establishment run by welcoming team. Upon entry I saw a guest that was tucking into something and I saw on his face that he was touching heaven. I said I need that. Well folks I have eaten in many places in this world. I have yet to find any sandwich that cone anywhere close to what I myself tucked in. See my pictures. The kitchen team and front desk were extremely courteous. This is expected in Asheville , unlike Miami from which I arrived from. All I can say itβs worth it a thousand times.

Piccolina, meaning βsmall oneβ in Italian, was named for the intimate and charming space in which it dwells. As I entered, semi-famished, I was greeted promptly and seated at a street-facing bar bathed in warm light and enlivened by the wondrous aromas taking flight from the nearby galley window. - Mind you, I consume kale only because I feel obliged to do so. But if one must eat this glamour-challenged garden step-child, the salad here, garnished thoughtfully with pistachios and plump sultanas as well as rich Parmigiano Reggiano and a delightful roasted garlic crumb, can pay oneβs debt to healthy living in a most agreeable way. - The pillowy moz and crispy-chewy crust of my margherita pizza were on point. But the standout was the sauce. This sauce, oh my. You could frolic among the vines in San Marzano, the blunted cone of Mt. Vesuvius in the distance, a zephyr from the Sea of Naples whispering through your hair, and you could pick a sun-ripened, ruby-red tomato from one of those vines, and take a lusty bite of it, and the taste would be no fresher, no more vibrant, than the flavor of this sauce. - Piccolina β small space, big experience.
